Jänta å ja (The Girl and Me)

  • Hambo, couple dance
  • Dal steps (1 step per bar), running steps and hambo steps  (3 steps per bar)
  • The dance is in 2 sections: a, b :
    • a: bar 1-3: 2 dal steps + 3 running steps forward
    • b: bar 4-7: hambo around
    • b end: bar 8: stop turning and open dance position
This is a very schematic illustration, using e.g. only 4 directions for the feet. My feet have directions in between.

Gent's big right foot step on marked beat 1;
lady both feet together, stopping up.

Gent left foot down, to turn on;
lady is still withholding her important stopping up, which gives the rotating momentum: makes the couple turn around with ease.

Gent: right foot together to left foot after turn on left foot;
lady has from just above to here her big beautiful float turn to land on her right foot, on this important beat 3.

Gent has his big step on his right foot in front of his lady on this important beat 1;
lady steps down on her left foot.

Gent steps down on his left foot;
lady stops up: right foot together to left foot.
Etc...
(This is = bar 4 beat 2).

Beat 1 and 2 are marked and there is no beat 3 in this phrase end bar.
Couple starts to open the closed dance position (to open dance hold),
gent steps down on his right foot, lady on her left foot.

Gent left foot and lady right foot down together with the other foot with marked feeling.
Then the dance starts from the beginning again with dal steps.

The dance is repeated as long as pleased.

There are many hambo tunes. Many polska tunes can be danced as hambo.
But hambo has gent's right foot on beat 1, and on beat 3 in (Bingsjö) polska, etc. (see dance 10)
